Council Letter to NMFS about Proposed Rule on the Guidelines for Safely Deterring Marine Mammals, Oct. 30, 2020

Key Council Correspondence

The Western Pacific Regional Fishery Management Council provided comments to the National Marine Fisheries Service in response to the proposed rule on the Guidelines for Safely Deterring Marine Mammals. The proposed guidelines would implement a Marine Marine Mammal Protection Act provision that exempts fishermen from the marine mammal take moratorium when employing deterrent methods to prevent damage to gear or catch if such actions do not result in the mortality or serious injury of a marine mammal.
